Do you know what separates humans from other living beings? Curiosity, Humans are curious. We have a collection of questions on our pleasant past, beautiful present, and bright future. We are curious to take challenges. So when we think about our Future a pic of Smart Gadgets comes in front of us. We’ve been fascinated with gadgets that function on a grander scale for decades which we usually see in Hollywood movies. So now the point comes, ‘Is it possible to do, what is the way to make our dreams real in future’.But in the past several years we’ve seen the True Potential of the IoT which show as a path towards our dreams and open the way to future of technology.
Now we stuck at here that ‘what is IoT’, A person who is from the non-technology background may have a few words to tell about IoT or noting. So start it from the beginning, The term “IoT-Internet of Things” was coined in the late 1990s by entrepreneur Kevin Ashton a digital innovation expert who’s one of the founders of Auto-ID center at MIT. He uses the term ‘IoT’ first and the term stuck around ever since. In Technical Words we can say “The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators and connectivity which enables these objects to connect and exchange data.” IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration between the physical world and computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy, and economic benefit. Simply put, the IoT is the future of technology that can make our lives more efficient, easy, and beautiful.
Now we think that how the IoT concept change our life similar to movies of Hollywood? Suppose, one has a home automation system installed which can be accessed from a smartphone. Then the person can control all devices smartly with the help of his smartphone. He can turn them on or off, get the notification, give the command to perform any operation; for an example A man who is going home from his office want a cool room temperature when he reaches home can turn on A.C. of room and set temperature from his smartphone, so when he reached home he can fell a cool and relax room temperature. Thus we can use IoT sensors for public security like in bridge to find hazard and connect them to cloud or wireless internet to our car, so when our car cross the bridge if there’s any hazard ahead, it will instruct us to slow down, and if we don’t, then the car will slow down for us. So IoT is beneficial for us in our daily life.
Now the problem that rises his head is this that IoT sensors make big data which is really so big to store, how we analyze data as it streams nonstop from sensors and devices? Because in traditional analysis, data is stored and then analyzed. So here you need to analyze data before it stored, in the cloud or in any high-performance repository, all while our devices continue to emit and receive data. With advanced analytics techniques, data stream analytics can move beyond monitoring existing conditions and evaluating thresholds in predicting future scenarios and examining complex questions. We need high-performance technologies that identify patterns in our data as they occur. Once a pattern is recognized metrics embedded into the data stream drive automatic adjustments in connected systems for immediate actions and better decisions.
Now we are talking about the present status of IoT By 2020, industry experts estimate that the IoT will consist of over 30 billion objects; according to the CEO of Cisco, the commercial opportunity for “ IoT connected products ranging from cars to household goods” is expected to reach 19 trillion dollars. Remote access of devices and systems across a data network is expected to automate technology solutions in every major field and improve efficiency and economic value via reduced human intervention. Currently, industry examples showcase smart cars and intelligent building systems controlling lighting, ventilation, HVAC systems, and security. Environmental monitoring of our water quality, atmosphere, and soil conditions for farming plays a key role in our society. Healthcare organizations are beginning to deploy smart beds and outsourcing remote health and heart monitoring services and devices. These solutions are designed to improve healthcare and reduce costs. which give a booster to the IoT industry.
“Don’t find customers for your products find products for your customers.” this is a perfect fit for IoT application, where we can convert it according to the demand of consumers. The application for internet-connected devices(IoT) is extensive. Multiple categorizations have been suggested, most of which agree on a separation between consumer, enterprise, and infrastructure applications. We can find application part of IoT in a general way in Smart Home, Smart Cities, cloud-connected IoT auto-drive Cars for transport purpose and better quality of life for us. It has also shown it’s used in smart medical and Healthcare systems, smart building automation, smart manufacturing, and industrial internet, smart marketing, smart media, smart agriculture, smart communication, and our favorite smart wearable gadgets. It also shows it’s used in smart environmental monitoring and energy management. Thus we can say that IoT is a complete pic of smart life for our smart future.
The IoT has a long path to travel in the future but it isn’t safe and clear to reach its a destination as there are so many challenges like data store and analysis, security, power supply, wireless communication, software complexity discovery of new things, etc. Albert Einstein said that “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of an idiot.” It is true for IoT if anyone hacks our IoT system or devices and access our data. So the IoT is nothing without security. Now concerns have been raised that the IoT is being developed rapidly without appropriate consideration of the profound security challenges involved. Most of the technical security issues are similar to those of conventional servers, workstations, and smartphones, but the firewall, security update, and anti-malware systems used for those are generally unsuitable for the much smaller, less capable IoT devices. The other challenge for the products of IoT is to clean, process, and interpret the vast amount of data which is gathered by the sensors and the storage of this bulk data. So IoT gives us a smart future if we develop both IoT applications and its security.
Nikola Tesla uses to say “When wireless is perfectly applied the whole earth will be converted into a huge brain, which in fact it is, all things being particles of the areal and rhythmic whole. We shall be able to communicate with one another instantly, irrespective of distance.”The future of IoT is more fascinating than this where billions of things will be talking to each other and human intervention will become least. IoT will bring a macro shift in the way we live and work. So her no doubt about this that ‘IoT-Internet of
Things are The Future of Technology.’
